Appomattox County is on a five-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Gretna is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Appomattox County will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 13 points last Friday, then bounced right back against William Campbell on Friday. The Raiders claimed a resounding 57-6 win over the Generals. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Generals are ranked 343rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Appomattox County found their leader in sophomore Noah Christian, who rushed for 64 yards and one TD. Elijah Davis was another key player, rushing for 24 yards and one touchdown.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Gretna's strategy against Chatham on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hawks blew the Cavaliers out of the water with a 62-6 final score. With the Hawks ahead 42-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Gretna's win came from a few key players Appomattox County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Rayshaun Logan, who threw for 111 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. What's more, he racked up 145.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Brayden Breedlove also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
Gretna didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Chatham to a completion percentage of just 27.8%. The Hawks hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.5 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
