Softball Preview: Hercules Titans vs. De Anza Dons
The Hercules Titans will head out on the road to face off against the De Anza Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hercules knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully De Anza likes a good challenge.
Even though Richmond scored an imposing 14 runs on Tuesday, Hercules still came out on top. Hercules walked away with an 18-14 win over Richmond.
Hercules got a massive performance out of Bella Placencia, who scored four runs and stole four bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Placencia is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stolen at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Jaida Flores, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-5.
De Anza can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They blew past Bethel 21-4. De Anza's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Mya Arroyo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Arroyo was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with a home run, four stolen bases, and four runs.
In other batting news, Sydney Cervantes was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Uriarte, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3.
Hercules pushed their record up to 8-3-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs per game. As for De Anza, their record is now 2-5.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both team's pitchers. Hercules hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393.
