Baseball Game Preview: Sulligent Blue Devils vs. Lynn Bears

The Sulligent Blue Devils will head out to face off against the Lynn Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Sulligent will be strutting in after a win while Lynn will be coming in after a defeat.

Sulligent will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Tuesday, then bounced right back against Carbon Hill last Thursday. Sulligent blew past Carbon Hill 14-7. That looming 14-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Blue Devils yet this season.

Ethan Stiles was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Stiles was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Wyatt Sandlin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Will Barnett, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Sulligent kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Lynn and Hubbertville, and Hubbertville kept the tradition alive. Lynn took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hubbertville on Thursday. The game marked the Bears' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Lynn's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Sulligent, the victory snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 3-7 record.

Everything went Sulligent's way against Lynn when the teams last played back in March of 2022, as Sulligent made off with a 14-0 win. Will Sulligent repeat their success, or does Lynn have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
