Baseball Recap: Hialeah Gardens Extends Winning Streak to Five

Hialeah Gardens came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 14-6 margin over the Hialeah Thoroughbreds. That's more bragging rights for the Gladiators, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Ryan Valdes tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. Hialeah Gardens is undefeated when Valdes allowsone or fewer earned runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Carlos Victorero was incredible, going 4-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Jerry Sosa was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4.

Hialeah Gardens always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hialeah Gardens' victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Hialeah, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hialeah Gardens will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Mater Lakes Academy at 6:00 p.m. on April 1st. As for Hialeah, they will square off against South Broward at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. South Broward will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
