Volleyball Recap: South Johnston Comes Up Short + How To Watch

South Johnston was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Union Pines Vikings. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in August.

South Johnston started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-29, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21.

Mayelli Ortiz paced South Johnston's offense, picking up seven kills. Ortiz got some help from Olivia Bellamy and her 19 assists. Bellamy was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Madelyn Perkins went supernova For Union Pines., getting nine digs and two aces. What's more, Perkins racked up 25 assists, the most she's had since back in August. Janelle Manzo also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

South Johnston's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Union Pines, their victory was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-1.

South Johnston didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Southern Lee on the 25th. As for Union Pines, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Harnett Central on the 25th.
