Baseball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Tony Schahrer and Will Skala Lead Prairie Central to Victory

Six must be Prairie Central's lucky number: they beat Pontiac with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Hawks didn't even let the Indians on the board, marking the Hawks' second-straight 6-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Not much got past Collin Hartman, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Pontiac off the board. Hartman is becoming a predictor of Prairie Central's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 4-22 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Will Skala and Tony Schahrer did most of the damage at the plate: Skala went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, while Schahrer went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Skala has become a key player for Prairie Central: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 5-21 otherwise.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Prairie Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 8.8.

Prairie Central's win bumped their record up to 7-22. As for Pontiac, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-13.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Prairie Central will host Reed-Custer at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Pontiac, they will challenge Eureka at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
