Basketball Recap: Water Canyon Wildcats vs. South Sevier Rams
Water Canyon lost against South Sevier back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Water Canyon Wildcats were beaten by the South Sevier Rams 74-41. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Rams are ranked 16th).
Water Canyon lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Martha Jessop, who went 8 of 10 en route to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joann Barlow, who posted eight points in addition to ten rebounds and five assists.
South Sevier had a senior duo take command as Sydnee Patterson went 9 for 15 on her way to 21 points along with seven assists and seven boards and Kinley Jenson went 6 of 14 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. With that strong performance, Patterson is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Caitlin Nielson was another key player, putting up nine points.
Water Canyon has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for South Sevier, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-3.
Water Canyon has already played their next game, a 52-26 defeat against Beaver on the 23rd. As for South Sevier, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 73-26 victory against Millard on the 23rd.
