Baseball Game Preview: Northfield Norsemen vs. Mississinewa Indians

The Northfield Norsemen will head out to take on the Mississinewa Indians at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Northfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Northfield turned things around against Whitko on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 6-3.

Korbin Haupert was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

Madison-Grant typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Mississinewa proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Argylls. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by exactly two runs.

Kavion Martin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Mississinewa's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Seth Yoder, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Yoder has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played.

The victory made it two in a row for Mississinewa and bumps their season record up to 8-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games. As for Northfield, their record is now 5-12.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Northfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mississinewa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Northfield suffered a grim 17-3 defeat to Mississinewa in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Norsemen avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
