Softball Game Preview: Ray Texans vs. Corpus Christi Moody Trojans

The Ray Texans will square off against the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Ray turned things around against King on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over the Mustangs. The matchup marked the Texans' most dominant victory of the season.

Megan Saenz was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Saenz was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Sophia De Leon was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Kailey Benavides was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Corpus Christi Moody, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Miller 6-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Corpus Christi Moody's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-8. As for Ray, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 5-12.

Ray might still be hurting after the 13-6 defeat they got from Corpus Christi Moody in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Ray avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
