Football Recap: Milford Beats Monticello for Their Sixth Straight Victory

Milford had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 44.2 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Monticello Buckaroo a 67-0 shutout. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Buckaroo, too.

Milford's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Carson Cheney, who threw for 276 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per attempt. Cheney also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making three total tackles and defending one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Milford also got help from Griffin Walker, who showed off his sure hands for 130 receiving yards.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Milford, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Kyzler Merryweather, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Milford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Boston Sullivan led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Cheney has been hot recently, having also posted four or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Sullivan got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Milford's record now sits at 7-2. As for Monticello, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Milford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Monticello, they will challenge Water Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
