Softball Game Preview: Baylor Red Raiders vs. Gibbs Eagles

Baylor is a perfect 6-0 against Gibbs since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Baylor Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Gibbs Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Baylor is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let McMinn County get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Red Raiders sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Meanwhile, Gibbs put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Union County with a sharp 13-6 victory. Fans of the Eagles have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Lacey Keck was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with two RBI and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Malyiah Smith was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 5-for-5. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Skylynne Luttrell, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double.

Gibbs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .541. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Gibbs' win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Baylor, their record now sits at 4-1.

Baylor beat Gibbs 5-1 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Does Baylor have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gibbs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
