Preview: Tindley Tigers vs. 21st Century Charter Cougars
The Tindley Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the 21st Century Charter Cougars at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
After a string of three wins, Tindley's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. The matchup between them and Indianapolis Arsenal Technical wasn't particularly close, with Tindley falling 76-59. Tindley has struggled against Indianapolis Arsenal Technical recently, as their match on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The losing side was boosted by Damon Van Horn, who scored 25 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Kenneth Lampley was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Meanwhile, 21st Century Charter scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hammond Academy of Science & Tech 96-35 on the road. The team's offensive explosion also rewarded 21st Century Charter with their most commanding win of the season.
Terrence Hayes was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Hayes is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacolby Donaldson, who scored 16 points along with six assists and three steals.
Tindley's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for 21st Century Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.
Saturday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Tindley have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 43.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like 21st Century Charter struggles in that department as they've made 47.8% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Tindley couldn't quite finish off 21st Century Charter in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 and fell 99-97. Can Tindley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
