Softball Recap: Montrose Beats Grand Junction Central for Their Third Straight Win

Montrose came out on top against Grand Junction Central on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run seventh inning. The Red Hawks put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 10-2 victory. Fans of the Red Hawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Bentley Schiller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Abby Siegel was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlow Monson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

The win (which was Montrose's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.3 runs this season. As for Grand Junction Central, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, Montrose will be playing at home against Rifle at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Red Hawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bears have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season. As for Grand Junction Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Palisade at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
