Baseball Game Preview: Cherokee County Warriors vs. Alexandria Valley Cubs

For the second straight game, Cherokee County will face off against Alexandria. The Warriors will welcome the Valley Cubs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Cherokee County fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Alexandria on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Valley Cubs by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Warriors couldn't push the score so high this time.

Ben Elsberry spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Those hits marked the first that he allowed this season.

At the plate, Cherokee County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Alexandria has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Cherokee County, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-12-1.
