Basketball Recap: Royce Cornelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Delta over Esparto

Delta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-41 heartbreaker at the hands of the Esparto Spartans. The Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 59-39.

Delta lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Royce Cornelson, who posted ten points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Keller, who earned ten points.

Esparto found their leader in freshman Landon Yanez, who had 16 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Yanez has scored all season. Emir Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Delta's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Esparto, their win bumped their record up to 2-15.

Delta didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-19 loss against Creative Connections Arts Academy on the 6th. As for Esparto, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 89-14 defeat against Fortune Early College on the 6th.
