Softball Recap: Flour Bluff Wins Going Away Against Miller

Flour Bluff won the last time they faced Miller and things went their way on Monday too. The Flour Bluff Hornets blew past the Miller Buccaneers 18-1. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Abigail Bippert made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed over her last seven matches. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, Mia Ortega and Addison Mayo did most of the damage at the plate: Ortega went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Mayo went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI Ortega has posted over her last ten contests. Sarah Morris was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Flour Bluff always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miller only posted an OBP of .250.

Flour Bluff has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. Miller has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.

Flour Bluff will face off against Ray at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ray has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something Flour Bluff will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Miller, they will take on Gregory-Portland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
