League recap: Shelby Valley climbs in standings with win

Shelby Valley was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in 2A District 8. The Wildcats beat South Floyd 52-16 earlier in the week.

Shelby Valley took down the Raiders 52-16 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Prestonsburg's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jarredd Jarrell threw for 294 and one touchdown and Bryson Williams had 122 yards receiving. On the ground Jarrell chipped in 85 yards. Grant Anderson helped Prestonsburg's passing attack out by catching six balls for 101 yards.

Prestonsburg's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Black Cats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Jarrell has thrown for 1920 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, while Anderson has 34 catches for 684 yards. Jarrell also leads the league in rushing with 413 yards.

Entering into this week's contest against Hazard, Jarrell is short just 80 passing yards to break 2,000 on the season.

Kevin Saunders's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,668 from 11,794. The improvement was the result of 52-16 victory over South Floyd last week.
