Basketball Game Preview: California School for the Deaf-Riverside Cubs vs. Maryland School for the Deaf Orioles

The California School for the Deaf-Riverside Cubs and the Maryland School for the Deaf Orioles will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Maryland School for the Deaf will be up against a hot California School for the Deaf-Riverside team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. California School for the Deaf-Riverside breezed by Model Secondary School for the Deaf to the tune of 43-9 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cubs' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 806th in California, while the Eagles are ranked 258th in District of Columbia).

Meanwhile, Maryland School for the Deaf won against Florida School for the Deaf & Blind on Thursday with 61 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Maryland School for the Deaf blew past Texas School for the Deaf, posting a 61-32 win. The Orioles' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Maryland School for the Deaf's win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-0. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, they are also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

California School for the Deaf-Riverside skirted past Maryland School for the Deaf 45-42 when the teams last played back in January of 2023.
