Basketball Recap: Marshfield Comes Up Short

Marshfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 53-43 loss to the La Crosse Central Riverhawks. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Riverhawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Marshfield lost, don't look at Zaida Kolbeck. Despite the final result, she posted 20 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Kolbeck has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mckenzie Holm, who put up ten points.

Even though they lost, Marshfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in four consecutive contests.

Marshfield now has a losing record at 4-5. As for La Crosse Central, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-3.

Marshfield will venture away from home to take on Eau Claire Memorial at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Crosse Central, they will host Tomah at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
