Basketball Recap: Morgan Takes a Loss

After flying high against Union last Thursday, Morgan came back down to earth. The Morgan Trojans fell just short of the South Summit Wildcats by a score of 66-63 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered since December 21, 2024.

Despite the defeat, Morgan saw an underclassman step up: freshman Zoe Rockenfield posted 22 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 22 points set a new season-high mark for Rockenfield. Eva Birkeland was another key player, going 6 of 15 en route to 21 points.

South Summit got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Emma Broadbent out in front who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 20 boards. Broadbent is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down 12 or more in the last 46 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Mariah Bowen, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists.

Morgan's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for South Summit, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.

Morgan has already played their next game, an 81-31 victory against Ben Lomond on the 6th. As for South Summit, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 48-38 win against Union on the 6th.
