Fonda-Fultonville is 7-1 against Mayfield since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Valley Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Fonda-Fultonville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Mayfield will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Fonda-Fultonville extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Valley Hawks came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against Duanesburg. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Valley Hawks have posted since May 1, 2024.

Jake Hernigle and Jacob Sheldon made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Hernigle didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 5.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Sheldon tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave Hernigle a new career-high. At the plate, Hernigle went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and one run, while Sheldon went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. With that strong performance, Hernigle is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Jack Sheldon and Sam Huckans did most of the damage at the plate: Sheldon got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, while Huckans went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville hit Mayfield with a five-run second inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers fell 7-4 to the Wolves. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Wolves: they've now lost three in a row.
Like Fonda-Fultonville, Mayfield also got a great game from a two-way player: Cubby Roth (C). He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Roth (C) has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Roth (C) wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Conyne, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Patrick Allen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Fonda-Fultonville's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Mayfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fonda-Fultonville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mayfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fonda-Fultonville took their victory against Mayfield in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Valley Hawks repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
