Baseball Recap: Middletown Takes a Loss

Middletown extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-5 in the process. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chariho Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Islanders of the 6-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Middletown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Agren, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Those RBI were Agren's first of the season.

As for Chariho, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Eight seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Chariho's side, Adam Carpenter was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Carpenter has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rohan Downing, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Ethan Elderkin, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Coming up, Middletown will take on Prout at 4:45 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Islanders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Chariho, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 loss against Stonington on the 24th.
