Softball Recap: Pittsfield's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Pittsfield hadn't done well against Newmarket recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Panthers came out on top against the Mules by a score of 2-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 12, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Alex Penney spent all 15 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 38 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Pittsfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carly Griffin, who went 1-for-6 with one RBI.

Pittsfield's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-3. As for Newmarket, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-2.

Looking ahead, Pittsfield will head out to take on Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tornadoes' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newmarket, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Nute at 4:00 p.m. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.29 runs per game on average), something the Mules will no doubt try to take advantage of.
