Basketball Recap: Oscar Smith Comes Up Short

Oscar Smith played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 66-19 loss at the hands of the Nansemond River Warriors. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-7.

Oscar Smith's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Zyonna Ellis, who posted six points and six boards, and Jaylynn JeanLouis, who put up no points. Ellis is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played.

Jordin Richardson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Nansemond River, going 7 for 14 on her way to 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Michaela Ingram was another key player, going 6 of 13 en route to 13 points.

Oscar Smith has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Nansemond River, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Oscar Smith will venture away from home to challenge Hickory at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Oscar Smith is facing Hickory at the right time seeing as Hickory is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Nansemond River, they will square off against Deep Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Nansemond River is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.4 points per game this season.
