Baseball Recap: Elizabeth Minutemen vs. Dayton Bulldogs
Elizabeth couldn't beat Dayton on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Minutemen fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 8-7. The Minutemen were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 2-1.
Derek Escobar was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaime Tamayo, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Elizabeth's defeat dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Dayton, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-8 record this season.
We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Elizabeth will face off against rival Oratory Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Minutemen 3.1, the Rams 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Dayton is set to challenge their familiar foe Brearley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
