Softball Game Preview: Newman Central Catholic Comets vs. Mendota Trojans

Newman Central Catholic is 6-1 against Mendota since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Comets are taking a road trip to square off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. Newman Central Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Newman Central Catholic got the win against Mendota by a conclusive 11-4. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won six in a row.

Gianna Vance made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Vance was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Lucy Oetting was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Anna Propheter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Newman Central Catholic's record is now 6-10. As for Mendota, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.
