Preview: Belvidere Bucs vs. Hononegah Indians
Belvidere is 0-10 against Hononegah since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Belvidere will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 318th, while Hononegah is ranked 53rd).
Belvidere suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They fell just short of Harlem by a score of 40-38. Belvidere has not had much luck with Harlem recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Emma Pierson, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Pierson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Maggie Sternquist, who scored seven points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Hononegah put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-23 win over Harlem on the road. The win was familiar territory for Hononegah who now have five in a row.
Belvidere has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Hononegah, their victory was their 17th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3.
