Baseball Recap: Woodlake Now 7-2 over Last Nine Games

Woodlake's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 22-13 margin over the Summit Charter Collegiate Academy Bears. Considering the Tigers have won eight matches by more than eight runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

David Flores made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all six of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Elias Lang and Thomas Leedy did most of the damage at the plate: Lang went 3-for-6 with six RBI, two triples, and three runs, while Leedy went 4-for-6 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Lang a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Guillermo Rosales, who got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Woodlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .463. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Summit Charter Collegiate Academy only posted a batting average of .280.

Woodlake has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodlake will square off against Corcoran at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Summit Charter Collegiate Academy, they will take on Orosi at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
