Basketball Recap: Oberlin's Win Ends Seven-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Oberlin won the last time they faced Black River and things went their way on Friday too. The Oberlin The Phoenix put the hurt on the Black River Pirates with a sharp 66-44 victory. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the The Phoenix had established a 21 point advantage.

Leading Oberlin to victory were Josiah Bowen-Pride and Carmello Williams. Bowen-Pride went 8 for 17 en route to 24 points and five boards, while Williams dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. The match was Bowen-Pride's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Smith, who posted eight points and five boards.

When it comes to explaining why Black River lost, don't look at Zane Kristophel. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 9 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds. Zyan Griffin also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Oberlin's win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-6. As for Black River, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

Oberlin has already played their next contest, a 71-51 loss against Central Christian on the 14th. As for Black River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 56-47 victory against Open Door Christian on the 14th.
