Baseball Game Preview: Newberg Tigers vs. Forest Grove Vikings

Newberg hasn't had much luck against Forest Grove recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will face off against the Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Newberg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

If Newberg beats Forest Grove with 11 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Tigers blew past McNary 11-3 on Thursday. The victory was nothing new for the Tigers as they're now sitting on three straight.

The team relied heavily on Greysen Castaneda, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Zadek Bowlby, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Newberg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.

Century hit Forest Grove with a eight-run third inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings came up short against the Jaguars, falling 12-2. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Newberg's record is now 18-3. As for Forest Grove, they now have a losing record of 10-11.

Newberg couldn't quite finish off Forest Grove when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 2-0. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
