Softball Recap: Eight Straight Home Victories for Vicksburg

Vicksburg waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Niles Vikings. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Allison Truckey made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Vicksburg got a massive performance out of Ella Luegge, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Luegge a new career-high. Emily Zemitans was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Vicksburg pushed their record up to 9-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Niles, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record.

Vicksburg will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair will be back at it again later today.
