Basketball Preview: Morse Shipbuilders vs. Erskine Academy Eagles
The Morse Shipbuilders will be playing at home against the Erskine Academy Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Morse suffered a tough 53-31 defeat at the hands of the Huskies. Morse has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Loss or not, Morse got some senior leadership from Trace McFarland and Calin Gould. McFarland scored 12 points along with two blocks, while Gould. scored six points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that McFarland posted two or more blocks.
Meanwhile, Erskine Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Medomak Valley at home and fell 79-31. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Erskine Academy in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now lost four in a row.
Morse's loss dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Erskine Academy, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Morse, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-41 loss to the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January of 2017. Can Morse avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
