Soccer Game Preview: Mesquite vs. Skyline

Mesquite and Skyline are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mesquite Skeeters will head out to take on the Skyline Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty goal totals in their previous games.

Mesquite is headed into the contest having not lost since the fourth and will look to keep things rolling. Their defense stepped up to hand Cedar Hill a 6-0 shutout on Tuesday. Given the Skeeters' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Longhorns are ranked 624th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Skyline). They put the hurt on Lancaster with a sharp 8-0 win on Tuesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Raiders with their most commanding win of the season.

Mesquite has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-2-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those five games. As for Skyline, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2-1.
