Baseball Recap: Trinity Lutheran Beats New Washington for Their Fourth Straight Win

Trinity Lutheran had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They blew past the New Washington Mustangs 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won three games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Bode Brooks made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kade Gillaspy, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Drake Goodpaster, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.

Trinity Lutheran's record now sits at 4-1. As for New Washington, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-4.

Coming up, Trinity Lutheran will welcome New Albany at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season. As for New Washington, they are taking a road trip to face off against Clarksville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
