Recap: Platte Valley Broncos vs. The Vanguard School Coursers
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Platte Valley Broncos ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They escaped with a win against The Vanguard School by the margin of a single free throw, 42-41. The win was just what Platte Valley needed coming off of a 86-19 defeat in their prior contest.
Platte Valley can attribute much of their success to Lauryn Uyemura, who scored 14 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Uyemura has scored at least 25% of Platte Valley's points. Another player making a difference was Lidia Vasquez, who scored 9 points.
The Vanguard School's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Baily Fritzke, who scored 10 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Blanchard, who scored 10 points.
Platte Valley's win bumped their record up to 1-2. As for The Vanguard School, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Platte Valley will face off against Green Mountain at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Green Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday. As for The Vanguard School, they will head out on the road to face off against Pueblo Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pueblo Centennial is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
