Basketball Game Preview: Deposit-Hancock vs. Unatego Spartans

Deposit-Hancock will head out on the road to take on the Unatego Spartans at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Deposit-Hancock's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Deposit-Hancock is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Delaware Academy two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Deposit-Hancock was beaten by Delaware Academy 100-69. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Deposit-Hancock has suffered since January 5, 2024.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Blake Fortunato, who went 9 for 19 en route to 24 points and four steals. The game was his 14th in a row with at least ten points. Micah Simmons was another key player, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Deposit-Hancock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Unatego's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The matchup between them and Oxford Academy didn't end well, with Unatego falling 65-46.

Deposit-Hancock has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.5 points per game. As for Unatego, their record now sits at 7-4-1.

Everything came up roses for Deposit-Hancock against Unatego in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 65-32 victory. Will Deposit-Hancock repeat their success, or does Unatego have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
