Basketball Recap: Jayden Zaragoza's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Ray over Akins

After flying high against Bellaire on Thursday, Ray came back down to earth. The Texans fell 57-53 to the Akins Eagles on Friday. The Texans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

Ray's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jayden Zaragoza, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 19 points. Another player making a difference was Jack Pohlmeier, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 16 points and eight boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Ray fell to 6-1. As for Akins, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

Ray has already played their next game, a 79-68 defeat against New Braunfels on the 5th. As for Akins, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-52 victory against Madison on the 5th.
