Football Game Preview: Gainesville Red Elephants vs. Langston Hughes Panthers + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in NIGEL NEWKIRK and Qwantavius Wiggins are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Gainesville Red Elephants are taking a road trip to take on the Langston Hughes Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Gainesville is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They took their matchup with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Brunswick. Considering the Red Elephants have won eight contests by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Langston Hughes put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They enjoyed a cozy 49-31 win over Lee County. The Panthers pushed the score to 42-17 by the end of the third, a deficit the Trojans cut but never quite recovered from.

Gainesville better keep an eye on Darnell Kelly. He was instrumental in Langston Hughes' win, rushing for 88 yards and two TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 209 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 passes. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Kelly a new career-high. 106 of Kelly's passing yards were hauled in by Xavier Tiller, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Gainesville's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Langston Hughes, their win bumped their record up to 12-0.

Gainesville couldn't quite get it done against Langston Hughes when the teams last played back in December of 2022 as they fell 35-28. Can the Red Elephants avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
