The Stagg Delta Kings are taking a road trip to challenge the Chavez Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stagg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Stagg is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Edison just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Delta Kings fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Monday.
Aerie Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks.
On the hitting side, Rachael Symoungkhoune made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Chavez got the win against Franklin on Monday by a conclusive 16-3. The Titans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Natalia Dias made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Kimora Bell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Wendy Ibarra was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Chavez kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Stagg's loss dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Chavez, the win got them back to even at 13-13.
Chavez's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Stagg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Chavez, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Stagg keep running through batters, or will the Titans buck the trend?
Stagg took their victory against Chavez in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Delta Kings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
