Softball Recap: Granite City Comes Up Short

Granite City came into this matchup off a tough 12-run defeat on Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Marquette Catholic Explorers by a score of 8-6 on Thursday. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Explorers earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Christine Myers put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Emilee Saggio and Morgan Buckingham did some serious damage despite the final result: Saggio went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Buckingham went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Granite City's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Marquette Catholic, their record is now 9-13.

Granite City wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-3 defeat against Quincy on the 10th. As for Marquette Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-3 loss against Jersey on the 9th.
