Hammond Central scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the East Chicago Central Cardinals by a score of 10-9. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Elijah Lewis was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Juan Magallanes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

Hammond Central now has a losing record of 1-2-1. As for East Chicago Central, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, East Chicago Central will head out on the road to challenge Bowman Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hammond Central will be paying especially close attention to the Cardinals' contest: after the Cardinals faces off against the Eagles, they'll take on Hammond Central again at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
