Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Extends Winning Streak to Three

Mt. Vernon waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Newark Catholic Green Wave as they made off with an 11-1 victory. That's two games straight that the Yellowjackets have won by exactly ten runs.

Miranda Oswalt looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon got a massive performance out of Hailey Rudrick, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Scarbury, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

Mt. Vernon's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Newark Catholic, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Coming up, Mt. Vernon will venture away from home to take on Zanesville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Yellowjackets are facing the Blue Devils at the right time seeing as the Blue Devils are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Newark Catholic, they will host Johnstown-Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
