Basketball Recap: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Clark Chargers
Cheyenne lost against Clark back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Cheyenne Desert Shields were dealt a 90-60 defeat at the hands of the Clark Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Desert Shields can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Chargers are ranked 17th).
Cheyenne lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Igniz Segovia-Gonzalez, who went 6 for 9 en route to 12 points and six boards. Jonathan Castile was another key player, going 5 of 11 on his way to 14 points.
Clark's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Gebremeskel, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds. Gebremeskel continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of CJ Edwards, who posted 32 points and five assists.
Cheyenne's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Clark, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7.
Cheyenne has already played their next contest, a 72-44 defeat against Somerset Academy Losee on the 16th. As for Clark, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 66-32 win against Amplus Academy on the 16th.
