Football Recap: Enterprise Wins High-Profile Game Against Opelika + How To Watch

Enterprise faced Opelika in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 42-20 win. The Wildcats' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Mason Burkhardt produced another solid effort rushing for 174 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry, and also throwing for 95 yards and one TD. Those 174 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jyrell Reese, who rushed for 98 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Enterprise was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 346 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Enterprise didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Gardner Dunn and Burkhardt. Dunn also made six total tackles, which is notable because Enterprise is 2-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-3 otherwise. Dunn got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

With the victory, Enterprise broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-4. As for Opelika, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Coming up, Enterprise will square off against JAG at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will be up against the Jaguars' rather soft defense (which has allowed 47.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Opelika, they will challenge Central at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
