Acalanes wins a thriller.
Miramonte played cross-town rival Acalanes for homecoming Oct. 23. It was a defensive game as neither team came close to the end zone until the second quarter.
Both teams came out looking to run the ball but only Acalanes found success in the first half as they managed to score at the end of the second quarter to put them up 7-0.
Acalanes running back Bo McSwine was the Dons main offensive attack as he ran 28 times for 128 yards and one touchdown. He was unstoppable and was used most of the game.
The Mats came out at half ready to compete and managed to stop the Dons offense repeatedly. The Dons defense countered as they stopped the Mats offense from getting close to the end zone. Both teams flip-flopped back and forth with out scoring until the fourth quarter.
The Mats offense finally woke up in the beginning of the fourth when their defense forced a fumble. They took the ball down the field to score with the help of James King and Kevin Paulsen. Paulsen scored the Mats only points with a five yard run and tied the game at 7.
The Mats took five out of the eight minutes to score and forced the Dons to punt on their next possession. The Dons then forced a three and out and it looked as if the game was going into overtime as they left the Dons forty eight seconds to score. A three-yard punt by Cameron Stevens gave the Dons great field possession and with his one and only pass of the game Tyler Caldwell completed a forty-yard pass to Lucas Levine for the win.
