Softball Recap: Venice Beats Westlake for Their Fifth Straight Win

Venice took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Westlake, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Gondoliers had just enough and edged out the Warriors 4-3. The win was nothing new for the Gondoliers as they're now sitting on five straight.

Violet Acensio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Sandy Carrera was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westlake only managed four hits.

Venice's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Westlake, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Venice will host Los Angeles CES at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Westlake, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Agoura at 3:30 p.m. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Chargers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
