Softball Game Preview: Deering Rams vs. Westbrook Blue Blazes

The Deering Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Westbrook Blue Blazes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Deering has given up an average of 14.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Deering lost 15-2 to Scarborough on Thursday. The Rams have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Seven must be Westbrook's lucky number: they beat Bonny Eagle with that score not once but twice on Monday. The Blue Blazes beat the Scots by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-4. The win continues a trend for the Blue Blazes in their matchups with the Scots: they've now won four in a row.

Madison Ross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Westbrook let Greta Krantz and Emma Rice run wild. Krantz went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Rice got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs. Charlotte Krantz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Deering's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Westbrook, their record now sits at 17-4.

Deering might still be hurting after the 19-1 defeat they got from Westbrook when the teams last played back in April. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
