Baseball Recap: Athens Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

While Athens's victory against Decatur wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Athens Golden Eagles had just enough and edged out the Decatur Red Raiders 8-7 on Tuesday. With that win, the Golden Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Jaret Johnson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Athens saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hudson Marks, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. John Lawrence Chittam was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Athens' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 2.8 runs across that stretch. As for Decatur, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Athens will have a chance to go back-to-back against Decatur: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
