Softball Recap: Fort Wayne South Side Comes Up Short

Fort Wayne South Side had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it nine. They came up short against the Fort Wayne Wayne Generals, falling 20-6. The Archers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Generals from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Jamara Fincher was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Fort Wayne Wayne's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Fort Wayne Wayne's side, they let Gabby Carrillo and Ja'Navie Grisby run wild. Carrillo got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Grisby got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs Grisby has posted since back in May of 2024. Faith Couture was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fort Wayne South Side will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Fort Wayne North Side at 5:30 p.m. on the 5th. The Archers are facing the Legends at the right time seeing as the Legends are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Fort Wayne Wayne, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-0 defeat against Fort Wayne Northrop on the 28th.
