Baseball Recap: St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Has No Trouble Against Verbum Dei Jesuit

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They came out on top against the Verbum Dei Jesuit Eagles by a score of 6-2. The contest marked the Warriors' most dominant win of the season.

Joshua Rios was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 6.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. Rios was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Christian Maldonado was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will head out to face off against Godinez Fundamental at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Verbum Dei Jesuit, they will venture away from home to square off against Hawthorne Math & Science Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
